Rock salt is used for de-icing roads, water softening, and in various industrial applications (like chemical and paper manufacturing), as well as for culinary seasoning, Ayurvedic remedies, natural cleaning, and creating bath salts for skin and muscle relief, functioning as a mineral-rich alternative to table salt.  

Rock salt is also known as halite, its mineral name, and is the natural form of sodium chloride (NaCl); it’s also called sendha namak (in India) and is essentially unrefined table salt, valued for its trace minerals and use in de-icing roads.
